The link speed test can be considered a very useful tool that will inform us about the download and upload speed as well as PING and Jitter. Speed Test is a great way to measure your internet speed.

The internet test can be done with a variety of tools. In this article, we will give you a few proven methods of Speed Test, but it should be noted that there are many more methods available. Ultimately, it should be crucial for us that checking the link speed should translate into realistic and thus satisfactory results.

How to check the internet speed on the phone?

Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test is a small application that allows you to easily conduct internet connection tests from the level of a mobile device. In principle, for smartphone users, it should be more accessible than the method based on checking the speed of the Internet by the Speedtest.net website.

The internet speed checker app on your phone is based on a measurement of three values. The first is PING, the second is the download speed from the network, and the third is the upload speed. During testing, information about the location and the network service provider are displayed, and for better results, you can consider sharing your location data. Information about our location is related to the selection of the nearest server.

Bearing in mind the above, it must be added that there is nothing to prevent the user from entering the server address himself. Many people will also be satisfied with the option of selecting which units the application should use to present the test results, which can be done from the settings level. Additionally, you can also get information on the external and internal IP address. The app is free and ads appear in it.

The next step in checking your internet speed will be to initiate a measurement. Speedtest by Ookla will check the speed of inbound and outbound transfers from your computer, and will also run a latency test to check the response time of the selected servers. There was also a display of the loading time of each website opened in individual browser tabs.

Some people might like the ability to save their results to the cloud. Speed Test allows you to create an account on the extension creator’s servers, and then conveniently log in. The function translates into the option of saving the results in order to then have access to the related history.

Speed Test – what result is good?

The Speed Test can be performed using a wireless Wi-Fi connection, but the results are likely to be less reliable. If possible, it is best to test the internet speed with direct connection of the Ethernet cable to the modem. A valuable result is one that has as few distortions as possible.

It is a good practice to make sure that during our internet connection test, none of the household members performs tasks that may cause additional load. Speed Test will show us the best results when no one, for example, will watch Netflix movies, download new games, software updates and so on.

We, in turn, should make sure that at the time of measuring the internet speed, we do not have a VPN running, an anti-virus program performing heavy tasks or updating its database, numerous tabs opened in the web browser, or, for example, running e-mail clients, which may include time to download heavy attachments. In other words, everything that may unnecessarily burden our connection should be turned off when performing the Speed Test.

Speed Test – how to read the results?

What is PING in Speed Test? What is Jitter? How to read the Speed Test? Before we decide to test the Internet, it is worth getting to know the short definitions of basic concepts that will be included in the results of link speed measurements.

PING is a parameter in milliseconds and allows the transmission delay to be measured. PING tells us how much time elapsed between the execution of an action on the server and the receipt of a response. The low PING value is an undoubted advantage, but it will be of particular interest to players who want to have the best possible online gameplay experience.

High PING will translate into so-called lags and will make it difficult to react appropriately to events in the game world. The lower the PING the better. Finally, it is worth paying attention to the fact that transmission delays will be lower when the server is located closer to us. Sending a query to the server and receiving a response, from the perspective of a Polish citizen, requires less time when the server in question is in Europe, and not, for example, in America.

Jitter is also measured in milliseconds. Since PING informs us about the delay, Jitter will tell us about the variability of the delay. High Jitter will translate into so-called bottlenecks, and this will increase the probability of data packet loss. In short, the lower the jitter value, the better. Anyone who wants to use streaming movies or network play in games, for example, can be very negatively affected by too high Jitter.

Download is a value mainly expressed in megabits per second (Mb / s). It informs us about the speed of downloading data and thus translates into, among others, the speed of loading websites, downloading various types of files from the network or smooth playback of multimedia materials. The higher the download speed, the better.

Upload is a value expressed mostly in megabits per second (Mbps). It tells us what the speed of sending data from our computer is. Higher upload speeds up processes related to, for example, uploading videos to video platforms, sending attachments via e-mail, as well as network gameplay (the server must receive information about the actions we perform).
